Arrival in Tokyo
Land in Tokyo and dive straight in — the Shibuya scramble crossing, the Senso-ji temple at Asakusa and a first dinner among the lantern-lit alleys. A city that never quite settles down.
Mount Fuji Day Trip
Head out to the Fuji Five Lakes for the classic view of the mountain across the water, weather permitting. Ropeways, lakeside villages and, in season, cherry or maple colour framing the peak.
Kyoto: Old Japan
Take the shinkansen to Kyoto. Walk up through the endless vermilion gates of Fushimi Inari, see the golden pavilion of Kinkaku-ji and finish in the wooden streets of Gion as the lanterns are lit.
Osaka & Departure
